Question: What is the yearly percent of food that is wasted in restaurants?
I never thought about how much food is actually wasted every day. Once I actually knew what “wasted food” is I felt so guilty because I actually never thought about it like that. Wasted food is all the food that people don’t eat after meals, food trimmings that are left over from food preparation, the garnish that is put on plated and the food that goes expired in groceries. “According to a study by the University of Arizona Garbage Project, Americans throw away 1.3 pounds of food every day, or 474.5 pounds per year.” Although I couldn’t find one specific percent of food that is wasted from restaurants I did find out that Americans waste tons of food and even though restaurants and cafeterias are one of the main problems I think restaurants can actually help. When people go to restaurants they don’t over serve you, so there not wasting resources, and if you become to full you can take them home so that they don’t go to waste to. Overall people waste way too much food and should stick to smaller portions of everything.

| Refrigerator Assignment |
This is almost everything in my fridge:
•2 gallons of milk •Teriyaki sauce •Frozen Chicken Brest •Chicken (left over’s from a party) •Water •4 different Dressings •Peanut Butter •Green peppers •Yellow peppers •Red peppers •Vinegar •Chicken Stalk •Iced tea •Mayo •Snapple •Chinese American Takeout •Eggs •Mushrooms •Lettuce and Tomatoes •Lasagna (left over’s from a party) •Butter •Jelly •Salmon spread •Ricotta cheese •Soda •Cream cheese •Garlic •Hot dogs •Frozen Peas •Frozen Corn •Cheese •Onions •Lemon’s and Lemon juice •3 types of Mustard •Bacon •Steak •Chop meat •Frozen Pancakes
I think my list shows that I eat very “American”. I don’t think the food in my fridge is very exotic culture wise, it seems very basic and normal to me. Grocery stores sell all the same things so I think everyone has something in common when it comes to what’s in there fridge. I’m not really sure what a relationship with food is, so I don’t know what kind I would have. Food to me is something your body needs, it helps me get full and I love how creative you can be with it. I think culture has taken food to a new level. We use food as social gatherings, I personally use it to kill time, procrastinate, invent something new and connect with people. It might be cheesy but I really do believe that food is something that connects everyone together. |
